Whoosh! A paper flew past me as I glimpsed a “100,000 dollars!” on it. I snatched it desperately. Looking down on my hand, I saw a badly torn paper, saying “The First Winter Lottery! Winner gets 100,000 dollars!” in a large writing font. Under the huge text, I saw a smaller writing text. I squinted at it, trying to read what it meant. “Eh, whatever,” I shrugged carelessly, then stuffed it in my pocket.
The next day, I left to go to work. What I didn’t know would make a big difference to my life. I walked into Orange (Apple but Orange), the most famous iPhone bestseller in the world. “Hey! Did you see this in the local newspaper?” My colleague, Gerald, waved a newspaper with the same flyer I saw yesterday.
“No,” I replied. “I saw it flying around yesterday.” I looked around carefully. Everyone either had a newspaper or a flyer, all saying “Lottery today! Winner gets 100,000 dollars!” Oh no! I thought. There’s going to be a slim chance of winning the lottery if there’s this many people participating! I sat down on a comfy chair along with my boss, Chloe, and all of my fellow co-workers.
“Alright. Let’s talk about how the company is doing. Is the stock going up? Are there enough products for the customers?” Chloe questioned, but I wasn’t listening. I wasn’t listening for the whole meeting. I was wondering how I could win the lottery.
About 7 hours late at 6:00 P.M., I went to Walreds (Walgreens but Walreds) to buy the lottery ticket everyone was excited about. “It’s 19.99, sir,” the cashier told me. “It’s expensive because there are so many people entering the lottery.” I paid the money, with a 5 dollar tip, and left the pharmacy. At home, I scratched the metal cover eagerly, and found myself looking at the numbers “09–18–50–12–19–29,” in calculator text font
“It’s time to reveal the lottery numbers!” the man on the TV shouted. I squirmed on my couch, hoping it would be me. “The numbers are 62, 61, 21, 05, 81, and 60!” I looked at my numbers. They were totally different! Then I realized, The numbers I have are the same as the lottery numbers upside down! I flipped my lottery ticket upside down, and saw the exact numbers the man on the TV shouted. I won 100,000 dollars!
The End
