The fires were decimating. People screamed and ran from the flames that were catching every building on fire. This was no ordinary event for the citizens of Canata. The authoritarian government of Shima was real, and so was the capitalist country Divided Provinces of Atlantica. This planet is a mirror to Earth, except for a few obscure changes. There were no ordinary humans, no livestock, and zero plant life.
Our earth is in a section of space called the Goldilocks zone. The story behind the name comes from the tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, in which Goldilocks finally found the perfect conditions that suited her in the home of the bears. The same analogy applies in space, where Earth is in the perfect position from the sun to produce life. However, Mirror Earth follows a different and strange logic.
Around 84 percent of our Earth’s population is religious, and around 55 percent follow a monotheistic religion. A few of them include Christianity and Islam, as monotheism is when a religion believes in only one God. This is the case for the entire population of Mirror Earth, as they only have one God. They call him The Intellectual, and for good reason. He originated from Earth but was mysteriously exiled in the twelfth century. The cause for his banishment is unknown, and how he reached past the ozone layer is even more mysterious, but rather than freezing to death in the first few minutes of entering space, he drew power from the cold cosmos.
Regaining his strength and finally being able to think straight, he found himself with the ability to create planets to his desire. Remembering the Catholic churches that he once attended back on Earth, he decided to become the one that people believe in, and by falling into a trance while floating through space, he was able to create objects purely through his imagination, as simple as apples or as sophisticated as violins. With this newfound power, he willed into existence a planet mirrored to Earth that was under his total control.
First, he created these strange creatures that somewhat resembled humans but looked more like animals. They survived only on the energy given to them by The Intellectual, including the carbon plants that he created. However, he made sure that all organisms believed and knew that he was their creator and the most important person in the universe. His vanity was perhaps his only weakness, as his physical strength was that of a God, but his mental state was very unstable. After watching Mirror Earth from above for a few centuries, he wanted to check up on his home planet Earth and came up with the idea to mirror it to his own planet.
He started watching the people living on Earth and studied their new habits and conditions, as they had become much more different since he was exiled. He learned about the ISS and other space projects sent out by the humans on Earth, and he attempted to befriend them, thinking that they were exiled from the planet just like he was. However, that was not the case, and despite the friendliness of the astronauts onboard, once The Intellectual found out about their true situation, he burned the spacecraft to pieces. This sparked an outrage among the people living on Earth, and they unanimously agreed to declare war on The Intellectual, which he gladly accepted.
Such heavy combat throughout space left not only the Earthlings exhausted, but The Intellectual as well. As they slowly realized how much damage they did to the universe, they also found life on other planets like Mars. However, they wanted to fight as well, which would have led to the complete destruction throughout outer space, and the Earthlings could not let that happen. To convince The Intellectual to stop fighting, they threatened to burn down his mirror Earth if he did not accept a peace treaty. Despite his bloodthirsty nature, The Intellectual finally forgave the human species, and accepted the peace treaty, thus ending all wars throughout the universe and finally bringing peace.
