“Blue?” I whispered. My sister snorted and replied, “Took you long enough, Lavender.”

“I have so many questions! Why are you here? How are you here?” I blurted out.

Blue rolled her eyes. “Might as well ask you the same questions. Listen Lavender, you are a soft and overfed house dog! I don’t need an extra burden with you tagging around! Go back to your owners, and your easy life!” she snapped.

Shocked, I stumbled back from her. “But… but Blue! We’re sisters!”

“You’re a house dog. I am a stray. You’ve lived your life like royalty while I had to fight for mine! Just go back to your owners, will you?!”

I had never seen my older sister so angry. My last memory of her was when she was taken away by strangers, taken away from me, and my mother. She had been wailing, “Mom! Lavender! Help me! I don’t want to go! I want to stay with you! Help me, please!” Then she was gone. The last look on her face was a mix of anger and sadness.

Days later my mother had told me that the people that had taken Blue would be her new family, and that I would get a new family too.

I don’t remember my mom much either. All I really know is that her name was Sky, and she was the sweetest dog ever. The only time mom, Blue, and I were all together was in a small house that smelled like food and had a huge area we could play in outside, that even had a little pool full of water! I wish I could remember more, but I was taken from my mother so early, and I can’t remember anything else.

But that’s when I realized why Blue was so angry at me. She believed that I had abandoned her. Me and mother. She thought that we had wanted her gone.

Mom was never able to tell Blue that she was going to go to a different family. The only explanation that Blue had was that we let her get kidnapped by random strangers without lifting a single paw.

(This chapter is mostly Blue’s and Lavender’s backstory)
