It’s Friday, December 27th, 2024 right now, and I’m on winter break. Since I’m doing a writing program at Letterly, I’m writing a letter to you about my current holiday traditions.
Usually, we go snowboarding for a few days. It’s really fun! We don’t get snow in San Jose, so we take a road trip to either Lake Tahoe or Mount Shasta. We often go with a family friend. This is the third year we’ve gone snowboarding, and we just got back yesterday.
We give each other presents. From late November to Christmas, we all look for gifts to get each other. This year, Mom got a blanket, Dad got pajamas, Richard got a camera and a yo-yo, and I got a night light and some new clothes. We like to wrap the presents and put them under our Christmas tree, waiting until the morning of the 25th to open them— unless our vacation coincides with Christmas Day. Our plastic Christmas tree is kind of old, but when it lights up it’s really pretty. Plus, the presents wrapped in shiny, colorfully printed paper are always a cheerful sight. Under the warm glow of our tree, we spend many joyful December nights together.
To me, winter break means family time and a chance to relax. Mom and Dad take time off from work so the four of us can do fun things together. Besides snowboarding, we might go hiking, visit a national park, watch a movie, go to the mall, build legos, or just rest at home. Whatever we decide to do, it’s always enjoyable. Furthermore, I appreciate the break from school and classes. I like having free time and no homework! I get to sleep, eat delicious food, and engage in leisurely activities.
I am grateful for my family, and, in the future, I hope that I will continue to spend Christmas with family and friends. I hope that, during the holidays, I get a chance to slow down from usual busyness and remember what matters most. I hope that all my winter traditions continue, and Christmas remains an enjoyable time of the year.
From,
Me
