It had been 11 days since the incident, but Jonathan still remembered it vividly. Looking out of his window, he could distinctly remember the event like it was replaying itself in real life again.

Jonathan stared out his bedroom window. It was a clear and brilliant day outside. The clouds made the sky look like a painted landscape. Jonathan went downstairs to dinner just as the sun started to set, giving a ruby glow to the trees in his backyard. It was still quite bright for 37:00. Jonathan frowned a bit until he remembered the new technology that was now able to control the light levels in his backyard.
After the meal, Jonathan’s eyepiece reminded him that his sugar intake for the day was five grams over. His parents really didn’t care, though, so he still requested and delightedly consumed a scoop of artificial ice cream. Jonathan was tired after today’s knowledge download and review, so he decided to go to his nightly hibernation a bit early.
Now, make no mistake: Jonathan’s eyepiece was only installed with Windows 185, but it was still able to sense Jonathan’s mood. It could tell Jonathan was tensed for something, that Jonathan was up to no good. But while Jonathan was hibernating, it didn’t know was what exactly Jonathan was up to.
As soon as Jonathan woke up however, the software was finally able to pick up and analyze Jonathan’s brain waves to determine what he was up to. The eyepieces had been able to identify this behavior in thousands upon thousands of other people. But the software was almost surprised to find such behaviors in children as young as Jonathan.
Jonathan was getting tired of life under complete government control. As soon as the eyepiece understood this it moved swiftly. The AI system knew that this was a race against time. Jonathan needed to be captured or he would join the Secret Brotherhood, an organization that was fundamentally against the government and which grew exponentially stronger in recent years.
One of the hundreds of loading doors at the Enfejien National Drone Dockport opened. At the same time, one of the Secret Brotherhood’s own aircraft vehicles took off from a secret location inside a remote and unknown canyon.
Jonathan was busy creating a new toy truck with fake smelting tools when all the glass in his house shattered at once. That startled and surprised Jonathan, but it had happened before when the government tested weapons secretly. What was even more surprising, though, was the pair of mechanical claws that tried to grab Jonathan and lift him 40 feet into the air.
Jonathan knew this was one of the possible outcomes of his rebellion, but he thought the end couldn’t be that easy.
“Somebody help me right now!” he screamed.
As if summoned, the SB aircraft arrived that same moment. Jonathan struggled with all his might to get free of those greasy mechanical claws, but long years of high-tech life had made him weak and unable to break free.
Suddenly, the drone caught fire. A hit by the SB aircraft! As the drone spiraled toward the ground Jonathan began to feel dizzy. He became to feel sick, then sleepy. His brain told him urgently to get out of the drone’s hold. He could sense the metallic grip on his body loosen.
With one loud cry, he used all his remaining strength to pull free of the drone. Then he hit the ground, and everything went black.
When he woke up, he was in the Secret Brotherhood’s base. Wait, how did he know that? He checked his eyepiece. It was new, and its Windows version was 192. The SB had downloaded all the information he needed to know into his brain already. Tomorrow, he was to start training as a member of the SB’s army.
But as he stared out the window from his bed, Jonathan recalled how close he was to death. If it were not for the SB, he would have died or ended up in a prison operated by the state.
Looking out of his window, he could distinctly remember the event like it was replaying itself in real life again.
