Incandescent Red

Luminous and brilliant, a streak of red,
Breathtaking and radiant, running ahead
Off it dashes, graceful and elegant,
The master of concealment, always vigilant
Clever, cunning, astute, all of above,
So spectacular it’s hard not to love
Yet branded as thief, trickster, sly,
Constantly recognized as one to lie
Just because of its tiny fangs,
Poised and ready to sink into prey
Just because of its tiny prey,
Innocent with a charming nose
Just because it lacks a twitchy nose,
Instead possessing astute vision
Whilst the real pirates lie low, encased within a shadow,
Wearing dark masks, marked with patterns of jagged tail stripes
Lacking the silence, the agile essence,
Destructive and not to be trusted
Lacking the glowing red sheen, simply sublime,
Neither wise nor resourceful, rusty with grime
All the while, anticipating and lying await,
eyes gleaming silently, watchful and knowing albeit
Intelligence sparkles as one turns to watch,
The legend of all time, real as a blotch
Its brilliant crimson pelt, fading as would a ghost’s,
Its eyes pierce into one’s thoughts, understanding most
A deliberately planned opportunity, just once in a lifetime,
Because it tolerated visibility for just one moment in time
