Particles, Not Elements: The True Building Blocks of
Our Universe

A few of us know about the Periodic Table. Many people believe elements are the universe’s building blocks. But they never consider that particles that form all matter. Without them, the universe couldwould not exist. I argue that particles, not elements, are the true building blocks of the universe.

To begin with, Particles existed before elements even formed. In the Radiation Era, the unified superforce split apart into gravity, the strong nuclear force, the weak nuclear force, and electromagnetism. The quark epoch began, and quarks soon began to form protons and neutrons, with gluons sticking them together. Finally, at the end of the Radiation Era, atoms began to form in the Recombination Epoch.

Furthermore, elements fall apart under extreme conditions. For example, a black hole’s accretion disk is a harsh environment. If even the strongest discovered element, Tungsten, were to enter this extreme region, the force would rip its electrons off, and its protons and neutrons would be separated into quarks. Yet fundamental particles remain undamaged. This shows that particles are stable, and atoms are temporary arrangements that can be easily rearranged to form different forms of matter.
Subsequently, particles are found alone throughout the universe, not bound into atoms. They form Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP). Human accelerators recreate this state. When gold or lead nuclei collide near light‑speed, a tiny fireball of quark‑gluon plasma forms. Also, neutron stars’ cores are under huge pressures, where the star’s atoms are squashed(This feels a bit disjointed.), causing their hadrons to decay and hypothetically leaving naked quarks floating about.
Skeptics believe that scientists can never directly observe individual fundamental particles. Even though scientists cannot “see” particles, they can measure them repeatedlyin collider experiments, cosmic rays, and astronomical observations. Direct visual sight is not the rule for proving something exists. Scientists cannot observe gravity, but we know it is real from its effects; atoms themselves were also once unobservable.

In conclusion, elements are arrangements of protons and neutrons, which themselves are crafted from Up and Down Quarks. The true base of the universe is the unsung mediator: fundamental Particles. These particles assemble hadrons and hold all matter together. So, the next time you look at the periodic table, remember that elements are only assemblies of smaller particles. Look deeper to appreciate the tiny, unseen particles that truly build our universe.
