I recently read a New York Times article titled “Why Do We Want It to Be 2016 Again?” The article was mainly about how people started to are feeling nostalgic and bringing up the good old times from 10 years ago, now that it is 2026. Even though I was not able to experience 2016, nor can I determine whether that one specific year deserves to be trending recently, I resonate deeply with those who feel nostalgic when reliving our memories.
In the article, many people look back on and mostly enjoy the memories of their high school days, fashion, music, and especially social media. Sadly, as I mentioned, I have no idea what life was like in 2016, as I was only 4 years old. Yet, I this did reawaken some memories I consider nostalgic myself. For example, the article mentioned how people used to scroll through old photos grainy photos they took. My brother and I used to watch cartoons with on CDs, which we had plentiful. Occasionally, when our family stopped at the a local supermarket, we would stop and stare at the colorful CDs in the CD aisle. Unfortunately, when we went back recently, we recently found that aisle replaced by a coffee shop.
I find it very unlucky that I am too late to experience the “legendary 2016” and also too early to see flying cars. Nevertheless, I still cherish the memories that evoke nostalgia, and I am still somewhat proud to have something to look back on these memories.
