Initially, this article caught my interest because it was closely connected with what I care about. I am a social studies lover and I am keen on following global news, especially the ones news reporting on war zones and disasters. Venezuela is currently a notorious country, not only for its social unrest and worrying politics, but also for the recent astonishing earthquakes. I heard about its current the natural disasters through my country’s (perhaps specify which country you are in for more clarity) social media; hence, this article allows me to dive deeper into understanding these twin earthquakes, from a quick overview of what happened to why they occurred, and why it seems even more devastating to Venezuela.
Furthermore, I was writing a piece of soft news myself after reading a sample one. It was my first shot at writing news. As a result, the sample proved to be crucial for me. Beyond its structures and word selection, I appreciated its subheadings most. Subheadings help writers to organize their logic better, and it is easier for readers to understand the main idea. I also implemented them into my own writing about the Chinese national women’s volleyball team, which is my passion. I enjoyed using subheadings, since they helped me stay on topic. My teacher also gave me quite nice feedback on them.
