In April of this year, President Donald J Trump announced that the iconic reflecting pool was going to be repaired. At first, President Trump said the job would “take one week” and cost about one and a half million dollars. After undefined in repairs, the pool remains worse than before. According to to a Washington Post survey, about 32% of Americans approve of the Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful initiative. Projects include the Lincoln Reflecting Pool repair, a four hundred million dollar White House ballroom, and a triumphant arch. Conversely, about 65% of the public views these plans negatively.

In the late 1920s, the reflecting pool was built over marshy ground. Scientists aren’t surprised about the algae, because the pool is fed indirectly from the Pontiac River, which is mostly polluted from fertilizer pollutant runoff. In recent days, the pool’s condition has gotten worse. Strips of paint have started floating in the water. President Trump is also claiming as, well prosecuted people (who are you referring to here?) that have “damaged the pool work on purpose.” The pool also had to be closed in 2010 to 2012 for repairs.

Historically, the reflecting pool has been a site for famous gatherings, including the 1963 “I Have A Dream Speech” delivered by Martin Luther King Jr, as well the Anti Vietnam Marches in 1967. President Trump announced the plan to repair the pool and paint it for the nation’s two hundred fiftieth birthday on July Fourth.

In recent days, The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was drained for ongoing repairs in July 2026 for the Fourth of July celebration (was it before middle of July then, if it was for Fourth of July?) for ongoing repairs. This came as a result of shutdowns from severe algae blooms and peeling paint, with repair work making the project costing more than sixteen million dollars. Even with these dilemmas, President Trump stated that the pool will be repaired into service soon.
