The Lost Locket
Izzy sat down with her extended family around the Christmas tree. She and her family had begun opening presents, when Izzy felt a light tap on her shoulder. She turned around and saw her favorite aunt.
“This is a special gift for you,” whispered the aunt in a soft voice.
“Thanks,” said Izzy
Izzy slowly unwrapped the wrapping paper, revealing a Pandora box. Izzy opened the box and saw a beautiful silver necklace with a heart shaped locket.
“Thank you so much. It’s so pretty!” said Izzy in awe.
“Open the locket,” said her aunt.
Izzy did, displaying her name in cursive engraved inside.
Izzy, so surprised and grateful for this beautiful necklace, thanked her aunt once again.
On a dark gloomy winter evening, Izzy was wrapped in blankets in her tiny one-room apartment. After losing her job and being unable to find a new one, she couldn’t even afford to turn on the heater. Izzy had hoped for so long that it wouldn’t have to come to this as she fingered her necklace. She realized that she would probably have to pawn her necklace to pay for food.
Izzy traveled to the pawn shop the next day and opened the locket on her necklace one more time. Tears forming in her eyes, Izzy closed the locket one last time and passed it over the counter.
Izzy drove her purple Honda out of her new house to a second-hand shop looking for a nice used watch for her nephew. Izzy stepped out of her car and walked inside as her heels clipclopped on the tiled floor. The clerk asked what she was looking for, and Izzy said a watch. The clerk pointed her towards the jewelry section.
After browsing the options for a few minutes, Izzy caught a glimpse of something familiar. She looked closer at the necklace, realizing it was silver with a heart locket. Izzy asked the clerk for it and slowly opened the locket, seeing her name etched inside the silver heart. Izzy bought the necklace, her thoughts running through the circumstances of her receiving the gift, later having to part with it, and then finding it again.
