Sheep Try to Solve Murder
In Sheep Detectives, directed by Kyle Balda, George Hardy is the shepherd of a unique flock. He reads mysteries aloud to his sheep but doesn’t know that they can really understand. Lily, the leader of the flock, easily solves the mysteries before the end of the book. However, the tables suddenly turn with George’s death.
With the sheep’s unique ability to forget things completely, they try to forget their shepherd’s death, but the leader Lily and the elder Mopple persuade them not to forget. Now, Lily and Sebastian, a loner sheep, work with the rest of the flock to solve the murder. Along with the help of a winter lamb, the flock must figure out the mystery before the wrong person is convicted.
This movie has a star-studded cast, with Hugh Jackman as George Hardy, Emma Thompson as Lydia Harbottle, the lawyer of George’s will, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the voice of the brave leader Lily.
The plot twists and turns, keeping the audience in suspense about who the real murderer is. The facial expressions of the sheep in the movie are very clear, and the audience feels the same emotions as the sheep. During an emotional part when the flock realizes that their shepherd is truly dead, the distress and sadness is clearly visible on their faces, making the audience feel the same as the sheep.
However, some viewers feel that the plot unravels too slowly. The pacing of the movie is a little slow but still enjoyable. Some viewers also say the ending is unsatisfying, similar to the book Hatchet, and that the ending doesn’t fit well with the story.
With a 95% critic review on Rotten Tomatoes, this emotional mystery is a definite must-see movie.
