FIFA World Cup Announces First-Ever Half-Time Show
The FIFA World Cup final will take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19, 2026. It will break the 96-year tradition by accomplishing a Super Bowl-style halftime show. Previous World Cups have featured music acts, but they have only played at the opening or closing ceremonies.
The singers include Madonna, Shakira, and K-pop Sensation BTS. The show will also feature characters from The Muppets and Sesame Street, who will share the stage with the singers.
Unfortunately, not every fan is thrilled with the idea of having a show in the middle of the game because they are worried that the 30-minute break will affect the players’ performances. In the FIFA World Cup, half-time lasts 15 minutes if there are no delays. This keeps the players’ muscles from cooling down and stiffening up.
Besides the entertainment, the show also hopes to make some money. It aims raise $100 million for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. The money will help support education and soccer programs for children in underserved communities across ten countries. FIFA will also help launch the effort by donating $1 from every ticket sold throughout the whole 39-day tournament.
