World Cup Half Time Show

For the past 96 years, the World Cup Final has never had a halftime performance. However, FIFA has decided to change things up a bit at World Cup 2026. Taking place at New York New Jersey stadium, this World Cup will supposedly feature an 11 minute halftime show, and is expected to beat the Qatar’s record for the most watched final ever (Time).

The show is not just for entertainment though. Part of the funds will go to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative that helps to expand education and football across the world (FIFA).

The show will feature star singers Madonna, Shakira, and K-pop group BTS. The show itself is being curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin.

“Madonna, Shakira and BTS are global icons whose music transcends borders and generations, and we are proud to welcome them to the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino (FIFA).
Beyond the pop stars, characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets will also be part of the show, as they have brought joy to young children. This aligns with the purpose of the show: to help children all around the world get education (FIFA).
Not all are pleased with this change from past years. Critics say that the typical short half time exists to make sure that the players don’t go stiff (Dogo News). Instead of the normal half time at 15 minutes, this half time has been extended to 30 minutes.
Despite the controversy, many people are looking forward to the performance.
