Russia Bombards Ukrainian Capital with Deadly Wave of Attacks

Kyiv, Ukraine’s capitol, was bombarded with deadly attacks that stretched into the morning of Thursday, July 2nd. 21 people were killed and 85 were injured, while the increasing number of people trapped in the rubble remains unknown. These attacks are Russian President Vladmir Putin’s retaliation for the Ukrainian attacks on key points the Russians need, such as factories and oil plants.

While Mr. Putin said that the Ukrainian’s initial attacks responses were not “critical,” he still bombarded Ukraine with 74 missiles and 476 drones. The barrage was the latest in the deadliest spring for civilians in Ukraine since the opening months of Moscow’s full-scale invasion in 2022.

Many of Kyiv’s residents had been preparing for a large-scale Russian assault partly because about two weeks had passed since the last one. This gave Moscow enough time to make enough a lot of missiles and drones.

Ukraine has been trying to force the Russian military to pay an expensive price for every mile of land it seizes. This increases the economic costs of war for the Kremlin. Moscow believes its military can beat Kyiv’s outnumbered forces on the border while inflicting such a large human and economic toll that it breaks the will of civilians, according to Western military analysts.

Firefighters and emergency workers raced to extinguish blazes across the city. Several apartment buildings were partially destroyed, and an unknown number of people were trapped in the rubble, according to the local authorities.

Russia’s war on Ukraine started in 2022 and has not stopped since. One can only wonder what will happen next.
