The Shadow Stalker
The doorbell rang. “Coming!” I shouted, hurrying down the stairs.
“Mail for you,” the mailman held out an envelope.
“Thanks,” I took the envelope and the mailman left. It only said my name on the cover, with no return address. Curious, I tore it open. Inside was a single piece of paper. It said, There’s someone in your house. Don’t let it know you know it’s there.
I frowned. What kind of prank was this? I turned around to throw it into the trash and froze. There was another piece of paper taped above the trash can, and this one read, Seriously. Don’t ignore this.
My blood went cold. How did someone manage to get into my house and put up creepy notes? I had locked all the doors and windows last night, and didn’t open any this morning…
Suddenly, I saw a flash of black. I looked in my mirror hung behind the front door and saw a figure standing right beside me. It looked like a shadow, but it could move on its own. Then I noticed another note thumbtacked onto the wall beside the mirror. Don’t panic; you’re safe as long as it doesn’t know you can see it.
I gulped. The best choice was probably to follow the notes and ignore ‘it’ or whatever had entered my home. I slowly turned around, pretending that nothing was wrong—even though everything definitely was.
I grabbed my keys and put on my shoes, hoping it wasn’t obvious that my hands were shaking—fumbling with the laces. I got into my car and there was another note, on the steering wheel. It will follow you. You can’t run from it. I sighed. These notes were telling me what was going on, but not what this ‘it’ exactly was and how to get rid of this mysterious stalker. I decided to go to work anyways, hoping anyone or anything there could help.
