The story “Bruce and the Spider” reminds me of one of my basketball games.
The team we played against was called “Off the Dribble.” They were a group of small, yet very fast athletes, and could easily blow past us.
At the start of the game, we were struggling to keep up with their pace. We were down about twenty-five points going into the second half.
We then realized that they had a weakness. They were small and not the best at shooting three-pointers and mid-rangers.
We took advantage of that by giving them enough space for us to recover when they tried to blow by us. Yet, we also gave them enough space to shoot too.
Since “Off the Dribble” could not score anymore, we had the momentum. So, we essentially made every shot we shot, and, because they’re small, we could use our body and bully our way into the lane and score. We could also kick it out to the wing, corner, or top, and knock down a three-pointer.
In the last five minutes, we were only down by about two points, and then we tied it up with a lay-up. They weren’t done yet though, and took the lead back up to ten.
There was about thirty seconds left in the game. The other team thought it was completely over, so they put their worst subs in the game.
Since we still had our starters on, we tried to take advantage of that. Yet, we could only score six more points on their subs, and couldn’t make a three to cut it to one.
