Beat the Heat!

“I am taking ice cold showers every night and sleeping on the sofa instead of my room.”

“I’m not allowed to go outside during break or lunch times at school.”

These are the words of children who live in France, Germany, and the Netherlands. Paris has reached 41 degrees Celsius, and the famous Eiffel Tower has closed early due to this undeniable heat. France is not in good shape with forest fires spreading in the center of the country.

Spain and Italy are also experiencing this mammoth heat filled with alerts and weather warnings. The Basque area of Northern Spain has reached up to a whopping 42 degrees Celsius! The Spain agency reported a 28.17 degrees Celsius, which is the highest temperature ever recorded in the month of June. People are still coping with the heat, but they are now desperate for water. A person was even seen swimming in the River Seine. Many people have also been spotted swimming in fountains. Many children’s lives have been affected, as they can no longer go outside and play anymore. Students living in France say that their Summer Fair has been canceled because they can’t go outside.

On the other hand, Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium are not at their worst yet. They are expecting rising temperatures next week. German newspaper Die Welt reports that authorities asked for no one to have a barbecue for it will worsen the heat condition. They also said to spare the water, for there is limited supplies. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom saw their hottest day in Gosport, Hampshire, on Wednesday afternoon. The temperature soared all the way up to 36.1 degrees Celsius, which is equivalent to 97 degrees Farhenheit. Reporters say it could go all the way up to 38 degrees Celsius on Thursday. Society will need to adapt to survive this phenomenon.
