Early on a Monday morning, on June 8, in the island Mindanao, while most people were still sleeping, a giant earthquake struck the Philippines, and the impact was so big that schools and building crashed down. Since it was so big, the people in Indonesia and Japan could feel it. The people that were just starting businesses got crushed under the rubble.
People watched in horror as their homes collapsed with no escape.
This earthquake was even bigger than the 921 earthquake that struck Taiwan, and this 7.8 magnitude size earthquake gave a memory to Philippines that they will never forget.
But just as the Philippines thought they were safe right after the earthquake was a tsunami.
This was not the first time an earthquake struck Philippines, but it was the first time something this big struck it.
After a while the shaking stopped. The president of the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos Jr said that all the schools are closed until they get rid of the rubble. This earthquake has killed more than 35 people and injured more than 144 people. But on the upside people know what to do when an earthquake strikes so they can protect themselves better.
