Alice is a 17-year-old rock climber with big goals of successfully completing the hardest course in the gym. One day, she decided to try the hardest wall in the gym. She tried seven times, but each time she failed at the end. Wanting to give up, Alice packed up to leave. Just as she was sulking sadly in her car, she noticed a nest on a nearby tree. Tiny chicks were attempting to fly from it, but one kept failing. “Such a poor bird,” she said to herself.
Alice looked at the tiny bird, hoping it would succeed. Each time the chick tried to fly, it only managed to glide. After six attempts, Alice sighed and looked at herself, pitying herself that the chick was like her.
Thinking that the chick wouldn’t succeed, Alice looked away. Seven times the bird tried to fly, and each time it failed. Then, Alice heard the chick chirp, and she saw that the bird succeeded on its eighth try. “Maybe I can succeed too!” Alice exclaimed.
Heart racing, Alice ran into the gym just minutes before it closed. She carefully started climbing the rocks, and then, before she knew it, she had touched the top of the wall! People around her cheered, for almost nobody had ever completed the wall before. Alice was glad that she didn’t give up since she was able to succeed, even though she had failed countless times.
