Shocking Record During 2026 Mother’s Day
Every year, on the second Sunday of May, people celebrate Mother’s Day to appreciate the important women in their lives. This year, Americans set a record of 38 billion dollars spent on Mother’s Day.

The first Mother’s Day celebration took place in the year 1908. After, in the year 1914, President Woodrow Wilson placed Mother’s Day as the second Sunday in May. Since then, people have celebrated Mother’s Day annually, showing love and care not only to their mothers, but also to the other important women in their lives. Many buy gifts as a way to show love and care. Over the years, the total amount of dollars spent has been increasing. In 2020, total spending was around 26.7 billion dollars, and this year, the total spending was around 38 billion dollars.

Mother’s Day has become increasingly commercial, as it is the third-largest retail holiday in the United States. The National Retail Federation (NRF) ran a survey, and they estimate that each person celebrating Mother’s Day (about 84% Americans) will spend about $284! This created a total of 38 billion dollars, and it broke the 2023 record of 35.7 billion dollars.

Out of the 38 billion dollars spent for Mother’s Day this year, people spent 7.5 billion dollars on jewelry. The second was special outings at 6.4 billion dollars, and the third was electronics at 4.4 billion dollars. Other gifts include flowers at $3.2 billion and greeting cards at $1.3 billion (NRF). Many other gifts are also bought during Mother’s Day.

This year’s Mother’s Day celebration created a shocking new record. Next year’s Mother’s Day is sure to bring more surprising news to us!
