A “Normal” Day
It was just a “normal” day. He looked at his alarm clock right next to him, which read 7:00 AM. He reached for his alarm clock and got out of bed. Time for school, he thought. He walked into the bathroom, brushed his teeth, and picked a new set of clothes to change into.
“Mike, come out to eat dinner!” his mom yelled. Dinner? Shouldn’t we be eating breakfast?
As he walked outside, he didn’t smell the sweet aroma of pancakes and maple syrup, the breakfast he usually had. Instead, he smelled the savory aroma of pasta, chicken, and vegetables.
“Mom, why are we eating pasta, chicken, and vegetables for breakfast? Is today a special day?”
His mom looked at Mike in confusion. “We’re eating dinner, Mike, not breakfast.”
“Dinner?” He was very confused. “Is this some kind of joke? We’re supposed to have breakfast in the morning and dinner at night.”
“It’s nighttime right now, and we’re having dinner. Is there anything wrong?” his mom replied.
“It’s 7 AM! Look at how bright it is!” he said as he pulled the curtain up. He pointed outside and was very shocked. It was pitch black. He thought, Am I in a dream?
“Mike, stop fooling around and start eating. You’re going to be late for school if you continue delaying.”
He sat down at the dinner table, taking a bite of the food. At least the food is tasty, he thought. As he ate, he analyzed the situation outside. He looked at people walking and cars moving as the streets filled up. “Mom, why is everyone walking backwards?”
She turned towards him. “Everyone walks like that. Why do you have so many weird questions?”
“Nothing”, he replied. The day only got weirder as the day continued. He finished his “dinner” and headed outside, confused. He walked down the street, getting stared at by people for walking “backwards”.
Finally, I arrived at school, he said to himself. As he walked to his first-period class, he was surprised that there was a different class inside. He asked his teacher, “Isn’t it supposed to be my class in here, 806?”
“You have me last period, Mike,” his teacher replied. Now my schedule is reversed? This is going to be such a bad day, he thought as he walked down the hallway. Even his friends thought that he was crazy.
Eventually, school ended. He started to walk back along the street, watching again as everyone stared at him
“How was school today?” his mom greeted him with.
“Fine”.
“Lunch is going to be ready in a few minutes.”
Finally, something normal today! He walked into his room, taking in all of the unusual things he encountered today. After, he sat down and ate his lunch, hoping for the day to end faster. He finished his homework and sat down on his bed until his mom called out for him. “Breakfast is ready!”
He walked out and sat down. Why is it so bright outside? He resisted the urge to ask his mom, knowing that she would say it was “normal”. He finished his breakfast and decided to sleep early. He brushed his teeth, changed into his pajamas, and hopped into his bed. He looked outside, wondering why it was so bright. He closed the curtains, closed his eyes, hoping that what he had just experienced was just a dream. He woke up again, 7 AM, alarm clock ringing. He closed his alarm clock and picked his body up. He opened the curtain. Pitch black. Not again, he thought.
