The Little Match Girl

There was a cold and snowy night in the last evening of the year. A poor little barefoot girl was selling matches. She wanted to go home. Her dad would scold her if she goes home with a lot of matches and no pennies. No one had given her a cent. There were no people on the street now. Selling all the matches today was hopeless for her.

The little girl’s hand could not move; her feet could not walk a step. So, she leaned against the wall and thought about her mom who loved her most. She missed the happy time playing ball with her mom. But, sadly, her mom was already dead. Suddenly, the little match girl got an idea. She took out one match, and rub against the wall. The flame warmed the little girl’s whole body. The little girl saw a house and many delicious foods in it. Oily roasted turkey, exquisite cakes and various candies were displayed on the table. She was full of joy. The match went out; the house and foods vanished in a minute.

The little match girl burned another match. Suddenly, she saw a woman was looking at her, the woman’s face was very miserable, the woman went outside and came to the little match girl. she asked her why she went out by herself on Christmas Eve. The little match girl told all the stories to the woman. The woman said that she had no husband, only a dog accompanied her. She did everything by herself. She was already tired of her life. The woman asked the little girl:” Would you live in my house and can I be your step mother?” The little match girl nodded with tears in her eyes.

The next day, the little match girl found that she was in a warm house, lying on a bed. She was so confused. Then she finally recalled what happened last night. She was so excited that it was not an illusion, last night, just had happened was real! The little match and the woman lived happily ever after.
