I believe there should be no age restrictions on social media for youth under the age of 15. Social media is essential for children to contact parents, communicate with friends, and is a way to connect.
Firstly, social media is essential for children to contact their parents daily or during emergencies. On social media platforms, users can either make calls or send messages for quick, easy communication with almost everyone, including children’s parents. Children could use social media to update parents about what they are excited about in their experience in schools, or what they need from parents when they are hurt. For example, children who have an emergency, such as a school fire (which should not happen), could call their parents immediately through their social media.
Secondly, children could use social media to have wonderful conversations about what they played and what they experienced during the day such as delicious lunches or exciting activities. On social media, there are all kinds of emojis and useful tools such as paying bills and that can create a fun and clean atmosphere of friendship. Children can share their feelings not just through messages and calls, but also through simple pictures, which come in a wide variety and are often personalized on social media.
Thirdly, social media is a way to connect. Friends can be made not only in schools but also on social media. Children can find friends they are interested in by having some adventures on social media and making friends with them. Also, children could contact distant friends they couldn’t find at school and chat with them. In the simplest way, children could find friends at school and then add their accounts on social media as friends.
Many might believe that social media causes distraction, but there’s just a simple solution. Schools could simply compel students to put their phones in bags. Hence, students can’t be distracted.
In conclusion, I believe that if social media is not banned for ages 15 and under, it will benefit. Social Media is a way to contact parents, a way to have fun experiences with friends, and an opportunity to connect with new friends.
