We are training AI to fight superbugs
Scientists at MIT are training AI to make medicine to fight superbugs.
The team trained AI to understand chemical structures of all the known compounds, and the new drugs created by AI were tested on superbugs where the AI successfully destroyed them. The scientists say that it will take years of testing before these new drugs can be used on humans, but the results of the test were exciting.
Superbugs are bacteria that aren’t affected by antibiotics. We have been using antibiotics for nearly 100 years, but now some bacteria do not respond to antibiotics and are harder to treat, which is a big problem.
Scientists hope that AI can make more medicine to eliminate other superbugs.
