Artemis II in Training

The Artemis II moon crew is preparing for their mission to the Moon, which is scheduled to launch in six months. The crew put on their space suits and boarded the Orion spacecraft for intensive training. This training helps them to prepare for the launch and for scenarios that might happen during their journey. The tests they go through can also check for any malfunctions in their equipment and replace it before they begin their journey to help the astronauts’ survival chances.
“Every milestone in the Artemis campaign brings us closer to landing Americans back on the Moon and pushing onward to Mars,” said NASA’s Sean Duffy.
Along with practicing procedures, they also get to experience sleeping and hygiene conditions. They were also able to try on their orange space suits, known as the Orion Crew Survival System(OCSS). They are worn on the Orion space craft launch day, in emergencies, and during risky situations. It is made specifically to fit its owner and uses a lot of technology to protect each astronaut. It won’t be the only suit they will own. They will have another to wear when outside the spaceship.
Artemis was the first NASA mission to the moon in more than 50 years. It is a 3-step process to get people to the moon. Artemis I had no astronauts, besides a sheep named Shaun, and was fully equipped to test the Moon mission kit and orbit around the Moon. The mission was successful. Artemis II shares a similar goal. This time, it will orbit the Moon with an astronaut crew inside. Finally, Artemis III is planned to land astronauts on the Moon. The goal was to have people walking on the Moon by the end of 2025, but that goal has been delayeddue to the testing of a heat shield and life protection systems.
