Lionesses of England Celebrate Euro 2025 Win
On July 29th, England’s Lionesses, their national soccer team, celebrated with a huge parade through London after beating Spain in the finals on Sunday, July 27th, and winning Euro 2025. Thousands of fans travelled from far away to watch the procession as an important part of England’s history.
The open bus parade took a route along the mall, continuing to a memorial for Queen Victoria in front of Buckingham Palace. As the members of the winning team waved to fans in the crowd, people pushed closer to the buses for a chance to see their favorite members. To celebrate their win, fans waved flags and even had face paint in the colors of England as they cheered for the Lionesses.
“Everything we do, obviously, we do it for the team, but we do it for you, we do it for the country, we do it for young girls,” the team captain, Leah Williamson, said. “Thank you so much for being with us. Stay with us. This story is not done yet.” England’s team is extremely proud to be the first team to win the Euro Games on a different country’s soil, and they will forever be remembered.
Leah Williamson had cried as they continued down the parade, as this was an extremely meaningful moment to her to be able to see everyone supporting their team and coming together to cheer for their win. “There’s lots of ways to win a football match, and we repeatedly did it the hard way,” she said. “But I think that you can see how much we care about playing for England, how much we love it.” (https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20250729-england-s-lionesses-party-in-london-after-euro-2025-triumph)
Many people can connect to the women in the Lionesses. Naomi Rumsby, who used to play football when she was younger, said, “It’s nice to see so many people here. I never thought it would be like this. It’s nice to see so many little kids with ladies’ names on the back of their shirts.” (https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20250729-england-s-lionesses-party-in-london-after-euro-2025-triumph)
