Resume
I’m a rising 8th grader with a wide range of academic and extracurricular interests. One of my biggest passions is swimming—I’ve been on the same team for four years and have qualified for multiple Age Group Championships. I’ve also been ranked in the top ten for New England swimmers twice so far. Swimming has taught me discipline, goal-setting, and how to push through challenges.
Outside of sports, I spend a lot of time on academics. I attend the Russian School of Mathematics (RSM), where I study advanced math, and I’m also a member of my school’s Mathcounts team. Mathcounts is a national middle school competition that challenges students to solve complex math problems under time pressure. It includes written and fast-paced oral rounds, where students compete individually and as a team. Participating in Mathcounts has challenged me to develop advanced problem-solving strategies, think critically under pressure, and collaborate with other students who share my passion for math
I also enjoy robotics and am part of a VEX V5 robotics team. Competing in VEX Robotics, an international program where students design and build robots to complete specific challenges, has helped me learn about engineering, coding, and critical thinking. It’s a great hands-on experience that has taught me how to troubleshoot mechanical issues, such as fixing misaligned gears or debugging code that caused the robot to veer off course.
Music plays a meaningful role in my life by helping me develop discipline and attention to detail through regular practice and performance. I play the flute and perform with the Rivers Youth Orchestra, a group for middle and high school students who are serious about music. I’ve also been involved in debate, and I had the opportunity to compete at the Harvard Speech and Debate Tournament, which helped me grow as a public speaker and thinker.
In addition, I speak Chinese and have been taking lessons since I was seven years old. I also have a strong interest in science—especially biology—which is my favorite subject in school. I’m always curious about how living things work, and I enjoy exploring new science topics both in class and on my own.
Overall, I enjoy challenging myself and exploring new interests, especially in STEM, music, and swimming. I’m always excited to learn more and take on new opportunities.
