Invasive Golden Oyster Mushrooms Are Taking Over
It has been reported that there are invasive Golden Oyster Mushrooms taking over dead plants like tree trunks. This mushrooms are taking over native U.S. mushrooms.
It is suspected that kids used Golden Oyster Mushroom grow kits, but couldn’t control the spores, resulting in the outbreak.
They are still edible, as proven by Alan Bergo, a chef and author who lives in Minnesota and specifically specializes in foraged food. He has stated that, “when you see them, it’s awe-inspiring in a scary way.”
Aland Bergo is well trained in mushroom identification, and says the Golden Oyster fungi are easy to identify and safe to eat. Alan says they don’t attract bugs, are clumped up well, and they have a meaty, umami, and nutty quality to them.
It is speculated that the spotted lanternfly from Asia will be the solution to keeping the invasive species under control.
