Seeking Loved Ones During Thunderstorms
Flashing lightning
And ringing thunder
Causes you to crawl
Under the covers
Away from fear,
Monsters and shadows
Free from any
Worries and panicked thoughts
Then a big bang echoes
Causing you to jump,
Scream, and run
Dashing to your parents’ room
Flinging the door open
Before jumping into
Their warm arms
As you shake
From head to toe,
Calm, loving voices
Erase all distress
Taking panicked breaths
Listening to the pitter patter
Of the rain
Falling onto
The vents outside
Struggling under the covers
But fully relaxed
As when you’re with loved ones,
Nothing is feared
