Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders receive 400% pay raise

Starting from 2025, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders will receive a pay raise of about 400%.

Cheerleading is known for its low wages but hard work.

The low pay started to gain attention when, in 2018, a former cheerleader, Erica Wilkins, sued the team for unfair low pay. She said she earned as little as $7/hour. Despite working 40+ hours per week, she was paid less than the mascot without overtime. Her lawsuit was settled in 2019.

The first season of American Sweetheart shows the financial struggles of cheerleaders. Many often have other jobs to cover their financial needs.

Every year, thousands of people audition to get on the squad. A few trips or falls will get you out of the team. The work is very stressful, and you have to be perfect.

The documentary made about the Dallas Cheerleaders quickly rose to fame and was in the top ten shows on Netflix.
