Netflix’s Show “Outer Banks” is a thrilling, adventurous, fictional teen drama that is a perfect mix of friendship, trust, mystery, betrayal, and romance. It was filmed in the coastal Outer Banks of the beautiful state of North Carolina. The first season of Outer Banks (OBX) was filmed in May 2019, starring the amazing show of Pogues vs. Kooks on one island. “The Outer Banks, two tribes, one island,” is a famous and powerful quote from the very first episode of the show. The show primarily tells the story of 6 teenagers who stumble upon a lost treasure hunt connecting to their family history. The wealthy class, “Kooks,” and the working class, “Pogues,” are exact opposites and usually result in conflicts. John B, played by Chase Stokes is a determined teenager to find his missing dad, which leads his group of best friends to the lost treasure, which could change their whole futures, but along the way, they have lots of insanely dangerous competition, setbacks, enemies, and drama, which adds a huge risk to their lives.
I highly recommend this show to teens and young adults because it is packed with adventure and always has you wondering what will happen next. It is highly addictive and has many unexpected turns and twists! I loved the show so much that I’ve rewatched it a couple of times, and I couldn’t wait for the most recent season 4 to be fully be released in November 2024. Most of my friends have watched it, and it is an enjoyable topic to talk about at the lunch table or at recess. My favorite part of the whole show is how their friendship is so strong. As they often say, “P4L,” meaning Pogues For Life. The level of love and friendship displayed in the show is incredible and truly amazing to see. These teens experienced so much as a group, and their loyalty, trust, and connection feels so real and deep.
I believe that Outer Banks is an extremely entertaining show to watch. It stands out for its fast, adventurous path that just keeps on getting better, strong friendships, and romance. On the other hand, although OBX is a fun and exciting show to watch, sometimes the overuse of plot twists and game changes can get confusing, and some important scenes can be mistaken for other similar scenes. For example, when JJ, played by Rudy Pankow, finds out his father isn’t his biological father. His real dad isn’t who he thinks he is; he gets stuck in a well for hours with no signs of a possible escape, then minutes later, he ends up causing the tragic death of his own son. I think the show can be a little more descriptive in that scene, especially because that is the closing scene of season four.
Outer Banks has been talked about a lot by the media and has blown up on social media. People often highlight the amazing storyline, the characters played in the show, the amazing background of the beaches in North Carolina, and the summer vibe it gives. However, the media believes that the show relies heavily on familiar teen drama and gets a little bit repetitive with it. Despite that, lots of people enjoyed the show, and I think it is a great show to binge-watch with friends and family.
