Denisovans now have a face
In 2010, found in a Siberian cave, so they could not find what the Denisovan looked like. But on Wednesday, they found a skull of a Denisovan from China and were finally able to find what the Denisovan looked like.
He suspected it was valuable and buried it in a well, and didn’t tell his family until he was almost dead. In 2018, the family donated it to Hebei GEO University. It was found to be 146000 years old and had a big mouth, flat cheeks, and a big brain.
Dr. Qiaomei Fu studied the skull to search for Denisovan DNA. At first, she found only proteins, which she used to determine that it was a Denisovan skull. Later, she found DNA that made it certain that the skull belonged to a Denisovan.
This discovery is important because it connects ancient fossils to the mysterious Denisovan people. Scientists also learned that Denisovans were closely related to both Neanderthals and modern humans. They interbred with homo sapiens and neanderthals, and most people in asia still have Denisovan DNA.
Now, scientists are looking for more skulls of Denisovans to compare them to find what the average Denisovan looked like. Now, this skull is great evidence for what Denisovans looked like.
