When I wake up, I brush my teeth and always go to the bathroom to do my hair. It’s a routine. My hair always stands up in the morning.
My name is Teran Altman, and I am in fifth grade and am currently homeschooled. Today I wake up, but something doesn’t feel right. The house quiet. Too quiet. I slowly walk to my parents’ room, but they’re not there. Then I walk to my sister’s room, and she’s gone. I trudge to the bathroom and turn on the lights and open the door. I Scream.
Suddenly staring back at me in the mirror is a shirtless, hairy, buff man with glasses that looks to be in his mid-20s. I look around and see nobody near me. Then I look back to the mirror, and the shirtless, hairy, buff man with glasses is still there in the mirror. I look at my arms and they don’t look mine. They’re big and tough with muscles. Then I look down and see only a six pack staring back at me. I’m shirtless! I crumple to the floor.
That can’t be me. I’m 5th grade. How am I so buff and hairy? I’m not even a man yet! On the floor, I try to wake up out of a dream, but it doesn’t feel like a dream. I slowly get up and look for a telephone. I need to call somebody. I don’t know why, but I call my best friend, Nathan Jang. I know his phone number, so I call him. The dial rings, and suddenly a deep voice comes out of the telephone. “Hello, who’s calling?” The voice is deep, like a man. “It’s me, Teran.” As I speak, I realize my voice is deep too. “What’s up, Teran. Why you calling?” Nathan says. I sputter. I can not believe it. It’s Nathan alright but he is different.
Suddenly I hear a faint voice. I hear Teran, Teran, Teran. The voice gradually grows louder and louder until all I can hear is my name being called. It is deafening. Suddenly I jurk up to the sound of my mom calling me. Phew, it was all a dream! I climb out of bed and go to the bathroom. I turn of the light and look in the mirror… in the mirror I see a boy with still his baby fat and glases. “Yea, that’s me all right!”
