Poker Face

One rainy night, Francis was waiting in his dining room for some visitors. Splat, splat, splat, the rain was making a constant sound on his roof. But then, a new sound appeared: knock, knock. Francis stood up and opened the door. An Asian man with glasses walked in. He was skinny but the look on the face made people think to not mess with him. “Anybody else here?” the Asian man asked. Francis responded, “No, Lee, not yet.”

Just then, two other people walked in, talking excitedly. Lee, looking at his watch, said, “Well, well, well, if it isn’t John and Billy. Are you ready to get destroyed like last year?” Lee pulled out a metal briefcase and opened it. Every year on this exact day, Francis, Lee, John, and Billy play a different card game. The first person to win 5 in a row is crowned the ultimate card master. For the past 4 years, Lee has won each card game. From Poker, to Uno, to Go Fish, Lee has won it all.

“Are you ready to get destroyed for the 5th time in a row?” Lee mockingly asked. He pulled out a box, and written on the box was Exploding Kittens. Lee started passing out the cards. At the bottom of the table, one hand was secretly holding 4 of the best cards: Defuses. Defuses could protect you against the Exploding Kitten card. Once you run out of Defuses and you pull an Exploding Kitten, you are out. Once everyone got 7 cards, the game began.

At first, it went smoothly, cards being drawn, players being attacked, the screaming and shouting filled the room. But then, Francis played an Attack card at John, and when John drew his two cards, he came up with Exploding Kittens. Stuck with only 1 Defuse, John had no choice but to surrender. Lee pumped his fist in the air. “1 down, 2 to go!”

John slapped his card on the table and bent down to tie his shoes but noticed 4 cards in one person’s hand. He thought he was just keeping it safe and didn’t think of anything. But then he realized that every time he lost, Lee always had cards under the table.
