I think it should be Gary Edwin Robinson, . He won the Excellence in Theatre Education Award, and tells us an important message that theatre starts in school.

Gary Edwin Robinson has been teaching theater for 35 years. He’s not helping kids act like a small theatre, he gives them a chance to work with professionals and helps them get a job in theatre. This is extremely important because many children don’t get a fair chance to join the theater world, especially if they come from areas with limited opportunities. His program shows how he can help public school kids be actors and directors.

By winning the Tony Award, he also won $10,000, which he used to help his school. What I think matters the most about his award is that it could give attention to his program. It could help the administration of some schools learn that teaching how to act in a show is very important.

Broadway is trying to be more diverse and find smaller theaters are trying to get more kids and families to come watch plays. Gary Edwin Robinson’s program proves that starting early can fix 2 problems: it makes new performers and new fans.

Mr. Robinson went to public school and then joined the Dance Theater of Harlem and studied at Howard University. His life shows the kind of path the theater world says it wants to support.
