Coco Gauff Wins French Open Single

This year at Roland-Garros (French Open), Paris, Coco Gauff won the French Open Women's Singles after months of losing matches. She is the first American to win this title since Serena Williams won it in 2015. Back in 2022, Gauff got easily beaten by Iga Swiatek in the Roland Garros final, later sobbing in her chair. So she promised she would come back stronger next time - and she did.

Coco Gauff was 15 years old when she entered her first Grand Slam (Wimbledon), but she soon encountered challenges when she went to a full-time professional career - such as the 2022 French Open finals. That led to the return of Faurel, a French coach who helped her before her Wimbledon success. He helped Gauff improve her serve and forehand. Soon, Gauff was ready for the finals in no time, and she was strong and determined she would win the Roland-Garros.

Gauff had written 'I will win the French Open' on a piece of paper the night before the finals, giving her extra motivation and belief that she could actually win the French Open. Gauff said, "I wrote it last night and was looking at myself in the mirror, trying to instill it in my brain, so I had that belief. I didn't know if it would work or not - but it did."

Coco Gauff's mentality is very strong, and she has the ability to stay calm under pressure, which is a key to success. In early March, Gauff had many problems in her career, but she worked through them, and soon she won 18 of the 21 matches she played. Gauff even got into 3 finals - Madrid, Rome, and Roland-Garros. "One of her greatest strengths is her mentality. She never gives up. She often makes the difference thanks to her strength of character," says her coach Jean-Christophe Faurel.

Gauff had experienced many problems and challenges throughout her whole career, but she faced them all, each time coming back stronger than before. She had turned from a novice teenager to a determined and strong professional athlete.
