Portugal crowned Nations League winners after penalty shot

Portugal’s big night made history by beating Spain 5-3 on penalties to win the Nations League for the second time. Their first win came in 2019, and now they are the first country to lift the trophy twice.
The final was full of energy, drama, and excitement. It ended 2-2 after extra time, with both teams not backing down. The match brought together two stars from different countries—Cristiano Ronaldo, the 40-year-old legend and star who prioritizes scoring goals and offensive side, and Lamine Yamal, Spain’s exciting teenage star who plays as the right winger.
Spain scored first in the 21st minute with a goal from Martin Zubimendi. But Portugal caught up quickly making Spain sweat. Just five minutes later, Nuno Mendes from Portugal struck a low shot into the corner to make it 1-1. Before halftime, Mikel Oyarzabal put Spain back in the lead, keeping them in the lead ahead 2-1.
In the second half, Ronaldo kicked his shot once again. He fired in his 138th international goal, balancing the score at 2-2 and keeping Portugal hopeful of winning.
With no goals in extra time, the match went to a penalty shootout. Portugal locked in and focused scoring all five shots. Spain wasn’t as lucky—one teammate Álvaro Morata kicked but missed the goal, and that one miss made a huge difference.
Portugal celebrated a hard-earned victory, with Captain Ronaldo proudly lifting the trophy once again. It was a historic moment for the team and their crowd, proving Portugal is still one of the best soccer teams ever to exist because of its teamwork and precision
