In the August 12 baseball game between the Yankees and the Chicago White Sox, center fielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. is placed on the 10-day injured list after straining his left elbow while sliding into home plate.
Originally from Nassau, Bahamas, Jazz Chisholm Jr. was inspired by his grandmother, who played for the Bahamian national softball team. At the age of 17, Chisholm signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks as an international agent. He started his baseball career when he spent the season with the Missoula Osprey, Kane County Cougars, and the Visalia Rawhide within the following three years. Chisholm continued to play baseball, football, and basketball throughout his life and into his career, moving back and forth between a religious school in the United States and a sports training academy in the Bahamas.
Previously playing for the Miami Marlins in the MLB in 2020, Chisholm was voted the most overrated player in the majors out of over one hundred players, according to a poll conducted by The Athletic. He received 20.3% of the total votes. He joined the Yankees this year. So far, he has 20 home runs and 61 runs batted in for his 2024 season stats.
With Chisholm’s injury, the Yankees plan to have Oswaldo Cabrera on Tuesday or Oswald Peraza on Wednesday for third base as Chisholm’s replacement.
Initially, Chisholm claimed he was “not super concerned” about the sprain. He continued, “My adrenaline was still going, so I didn’t feel it right away.”
Chisholm’s affiliates, on the other hand, take the subject more seriously. “…Hopefully this is something that’s a shorter period and we’ll get him back and rolling but it’s certainly tough to not have him in there with what he’s meant to our team already,” Aaron Boone, Chisholm Jr.’s baseball manager, said. He expects the team to take a hit with Chisholm Jr.’s absence.
