Liverpool, a professional football club from England, took a 4-0 defeat on July 12th to their Premier League rival, Manchester United, in Bangkok, Thailand. However, the way they were greeted prior to their arrival on Sunday made up for the loss as the experience was unforgettable for both the team and its fans.
When manager Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool team were ready to depart the airport, hundreds of fans were already waiting (many of which were there for 6 hours already). “Some were 50 yards away and probably didn’t even get the merest glimpse of their heroes, given it only needed about three strides to get from the exit of the VIP room to the team bus.” Yet, excitement and admiration still spanned throughout the reservation.
This much going on during a press conference led to Klopp saying, “I have never been to a press conference like this.” The rivalry between these teams wasn’t just during the game, but the recognition mattered too to him. He emphasized there is nothing friendly between Liverpool and United. Ending the day, he thanked Bangkok for the welcome and showed great excitement towards the awaited matchup.
While the matchup with Manchester United did not end in Liverpool’s favor score-wise, the energetic atmosphere at Rajamangala Stadium did not disappoint. The experience for Klopp made him question a comparison to Manchester United’s arrival. “Was it like this yesterday when Manchester United came?”
