Donna Ferrato is a photojournalist who is well-known for her documentation of domestic violence and a women’s right to choose.

Some images, which display how far women have come over the years, were supposed to be displayed when Roe vs. Wade almost got overturned in 2016. She explained how important the piece was and what it was for. In 2016 the Supreme Court was still in favour of abortion, and Roe vs Wade was not overturned. Now Roe vs Wade has been overturned.

A lot of her photos show a woman succeeding or fighting improper treatment. One of the most famous was a person named Rita. She was getting beaten up by her husband and trying to press charges against him. In the end, she succeeded and divorced him. In another instance, Ferrato took a photo of a woman getting beaten up by her husband, and an eight-year-old boy calling the police. Ferrato’s documentation of these situations provided key proof of domestic violence throughout the country.

Ferrato also likes taking pictures of the physical emotions of women. She likes going to dances and taking pictures of the dancers. Many of these pictures were provocative, yet empowering and playful.

To display the perseverance of women, she took a picture of a pregnant woman who had leukemia and needed to recover. She was suggested to have an abortion so that she could be treated with chemotherapy, but instead, she had her arm amputated for the baby.
