Florida’s governor Ron DeSantis argued against providing Covid vaccines to young children, and said that Florida will not be providing any state programs to help administer vaccines to children or toddlers.
The CDC, FDA, John Hopkins Medicine, and the Mayo Clinic all confirmed that the Covid vaccine was indeed safe, and put large emphasis on urging the public to get the shot to help further prevent any serious symptoms.
Speaking at a press conference in Miami, Florida’s governor Ron DeSantis said that Covid vaccines have not gone through enough testing or trials to determine that they actually help to minimize the risk of dangerous symptoms in children.
“I would say we are affirmatively against the Covid vaccine for young kids,” DeSantis said. “These are the people who have zero risk of getting anything.”
Unlike all other 49 states, Florida was the only state that disallowed the ordering of any vaccine by healthcare providers before not only the first deadline for ordering during the first wave, but also the second.
Eventually, Florida finally made the choice to allow healthcare providers to order their own shipments of the vaccine, however, maintained the position that the state of Florida does not recommend the distribution of the vaccine to children under the age of 5.
State officials said that doctors could order as many vaccines as needed, however, they had to through a state portal that wasn’t opened until recently.
