Recently, the repealing of Roe v. Wade has people swathed in layers of sadness, unjust, anger, and jubilance. Thousands of people who were upset about the sudden, drastic increase in distance for abortion care took action two weeks after the overturn. So, this Saturday, a peculiar sight involving people waving signs, shouting, and even tying themselves on fences occurred on a rainy day in the capital state of the US.

Lauren Pierce, a Texan Attorney, went about 1,300 miles to attend the protest along with 10,000 other people. She found many Texans who found that the driving distance for abortion care increased by over two hundred miles, one way. According to an article published in BBC News, President Joe Biden has tried to the extent of his power to protect abortion care in emergencies. “But the president’s powers are limited, and he cannot undo the decision of the Supreme Court,” the article said.

His actions came to no avail, though. Rachel O’Leary Carmona, executive director of the women’s march, commented the reversal was “the first time a constitutional right has been taken away.”

Joanne Morris, who was seventy-five years old, said she wanted her daughter to have the same rights as she did when she was younger. The article mentioned that she didn’t expect to see Roe fall. “It seems like the country is heading in the wrong direction,” she said.

In an article published in CBS News, some people carved cardboard figures of the Supreme Court members and pasted remarks such as “strong women scare me” and “I am an impatient fool” on the figures. Others complained that they “didn’t want their rapist’s babies.” This was true, as many accidents, wanted or not, forced or voluntarily, can lead to people such as college students losing an option that might better both the babies and their lives.

“This is not over,” President Biden had reminded Americans. “This decision must not be the final word.” He urges Americans to vote in legislators who will protect abortion rights.
