Tom Cruise’s name is widely known by many people, but it wasn’t easy for Cruise to reach stardom. The dedication and sacrifice that he puts into his movies allow him to flourish.

Onscreen, we know Cruise as one of the biggest Hollywood actors for shooting hit movies like his latest project, Top Gun: Maverick, which has earned over $1 billion through its streams. However, when the screen is off, Cruise is mysterious. The more he talks about a cryptic and controversial religion, the more the topic becomes enigmatic. He’s also incredibly secretive with the details of his personal life.

When asked by Moviebill magazine to recall his most memorable filming experience, Cruise couldn’t point out a specific one saying, “I love movies.” Another time, he was asked in an interview which team he supported in a Giants vs. Dodgers game that he attended last fall. He answered, “I’m a fan of baseball.”

From his movies such as Risky Business and Jerry Maguire to Eyes Wide Shut and Magnolia, Cruise has shown he can deliver both the sympathetic heartthrob the audience yearns for and the subtle nuanced performances that display he’s a serious actor.

However, now he’s distanced from romance and drama. In the past decade and more, he’s been starring in more action-adventure genre movies. Cruise’s performances give off his easy charisma and athleticism, but he still adds touches of nuance to his dramatic fare in each movie.

Cruise tries to keep most of his movies as close to reality as possible. He forced himself through tough and demanding flight training to shoot the original Top Gun. In Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, Cruise climbed the world’s tallest building, which was elevated 1,700 feet into the air. He also held his breath underwater for six and a half minutes while filming Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, just to make his movies more enjoyable.

Cruise’s willingness to put in all his effort for each movie that he shoots creates the entertainment that today’s audiences crave. His path to becoming one of the greatest movie stars of all time was not easy, and a glimpse behind-the-scenes of his performances gives us a small sense of the amount of energy it takes to produce such award-winning films.
