In Alaska, things weren’t so good. The Kubacki family’s blind dog was lost. It was found in a construction site, in a mulberry bush. It was first mistaken for a bear.
The dog was a blind, old golden retriever. It had wandered away from home three weeks ago, and its family, the Kubacki’s, had already given up hope finding it.
Their family was more than overjoyed to find their dog.
“She means everything,” owner Ted Kubacki said. “I have five daughters, and they’re 4 to 13 years old, so they’ve spent every day of their life with that dog.”
The family knew Lulu couldn’t’t have gotten far, since she is blind.
The Kubacki’s were the subjects of mean jokes while they searched for Lulu. One time after they put their children to bed, the Kubacki’s got a text that said “Oh, we found your dog”! They just texted back, “Oh that’s great”. But the text they got back said “just kidding”!
But the finding of their dog wasn’t the end of everything. They expected, when they found Lulu, for her to jump on to them and wag her tail. But it never happened. She could barely lift her head. She was severely dehydrated.
“Slowly but surely, she started eating and she was kind of able to pick her head up,” Kubacki said. “But then yesterday, she propped herself up on her front paws by herself, like nestled into me and gave me a kiss and wagged her tail and it was just so great.”
The Kubackis were also worried about their vet bills, but things became better when Sitka residents donated hundreds of dollars to them. Soon enough, Lulu was able to stand up by herself.
