Many people dream about time travel. Some people want it for fun. Others just probably want to visit their dead relatives. Believe it or not, time travel could be possible. The chance of it is higher than being able to terraform Mars. Not only does mass warp gravity, but it also warps time and light.

If you traveled 4 billion years ago

If you traveled 4 billion years ago, you would see that the moon was very close to Earth, about 25000 kilometers (1553 miles) away. The distance today is 380000 kilometers (236121 miles) away. You could even easily feel the gravity of the moon and see volcanoes erupting on its surface. The atmosphere would be very different, so you would need an oxygen tank to survive. It was made of toxic gasses, like CO2 (carbon dioxide). There would also be a lot of volcanic activity. Meteoroid hits were very common at that time. Earth would be unstable with earthquakes. You would also see a lot of comets covered in ice hit Earth. If you had a microscope, you could see the first forms of life, prokaryotic cells. Humans evolved from these types of bacteria.

If you traveled 1 billion years ago

What about 1 billion years? If you brought tools, like a microscope, you could see plant cells forming, like algae. Of course, the supercontinent Pangaea would still be there. Many life forms would be non-threatening. The atmosphere would be much different, so you would also need an oxygen mask. The main gas was CO2 (carbon dioxide). The Earth wouldn’t still be what it is today.

If you traveled 1 billion years into the future

Traveling 1 billion years into the future is very dangerous. The sun’s luminosity will be 10% stronger than it is right now. The average temperature on earth will be 117 degrees Fahrenheit (47 degrees Celsius). The atmosphere will even feel like a damp greenhouse. The oceans will even evaporate. The only water left will be at the poles. You will most likely have to live there they would be the most habitable places on the planet. You will most likely not see humans anymore. Hopefully, they may have found another home.

One smart way to use time travel is to go back to 2009. That was the year bitcoins were invented. You could purchase loads of bitcoins. Then, you would go to the time of the highest bitcoin price and sell all of them. Of course, this would be kind of cheating the bitcoin community. You could get into legal trouble if authorities found out you traveled back in time, so it’s best not to tell anyone!

Maybe you could use your ability to help humanity. What if you killed baby Hitler? You could also stop many wars.

Being able to time travel is cool, but it’ll be helpful only if you use it to help humanity. Even if you helped yourself, you’d still be in trouble for messing with bitcoins. Helping humanity is worth more than millions in bitcoins.
