In 2022, 14-year-old Harini Logan won the National Spelling Bee championship. During the national spelling bee competition, Harini faced some unexpected challenges, including an unprecedented spell-off in the final round on June 2nd 2022. But still, Harini managed to take home the coveted title, along with the trophy and over $50,000 in cash and prizes.
The three-day event, held in National Harbor, Maryland, began with 229 spellers. In the spelling bee competition, Harini faced a setback in the multiple-choice vocabulary round after her description of the word pullulation was said to be wrong. Harini had described the meaning as “nesting of mating birds.” She was eliminated but then reinstated when the judges realized her definition was correct!
Harini Logan was born on May 9, 2008, in Texas. As a child she loved to read. Harini is the first Scripps champion to be reinstated into a competition and also the first to win in a spell-off. Now with her biggest challenge conquered, Harini wants to try to write a book before graduating from high school. Now that is a good goal to try to achieve
