After missing out on three straight Grand Slam tournaments due to injury, Serena Williams returned to the tour at this year’s championships at Wimbledon.

This year’s tournament has been filled with political tension. Unlike other players, Williams does has not given her opinion on various political debates, including the banning of Russian and Belarusian players and the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Other tennis stars, such as Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka, have been eager to share their points of view.

During her break from tennis, Williams had to deal with the challenges of motherhood along with her injury. Her daughter, Olympia, is now four years old. Williams’ torn right hamstring and her decision to sit out the last three Grand Slam tournaments caused many to wonder if she would keep playing.

However, Williams and her new coach, Eric Hechtman, are not only trying to improve on last year: Their goal is to win. “She’s a champion, right? And she’s playing Wimbledon for a reason,” Hechtman said. “Just like I think anybody that walks into the tournament, their goal is to win the event. And that’s our goal.”
