Last Friday, Roe V. Wade was overturned. The Roe V. Wade case debates if women can get an abortion. The Supreme Court declared that getting an abortion is now illegal. Many Democrats are angry about these abortion laws, while Republicans are trying to divert the nation’s attention to crime and rising gas prices.
Not all hope is lost, however. There will be a poll in November to change anti-abortion laws. Many Democrats are publicly speaking about the ballot, and how these laws should be changed. North Carolina representative Cheri Beasley says, “This November, let us run, not walk, to the polls.” Ohio representative Tim Ryan is fuming because Ohio has trigger laws. Trigger laws are laws that, when made, will go into effect immediately. As a Democrat, he feels that it is insane that Ohio must now ban abortions. Many other democratic states have similar feelings about abortion laws.
As usual, many crimes are happening around the states, such as the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Now with the rising prices of gas, many Republicans want to find a solution rather than debate abortion laws. Many Republicans are glad that there are anti-abortion laws, but they also promise that women and children will benefit from this decision. Pennsylvania representative Mehmet Oz says that “I am relieved that protecting the lives of America’s unborn children will once again be decided by the people through their elected representatives.”
The Roe V. Wade case has been a rollercoaster of emotions. This writer feels that they didn’t expect that it would end so soon. With such a sensitive topic, they thought it would take longer. This writer feels so disappointed that women can’t get abortions. This writer feels that women should make that decision instead because the debate is about women’s bodies. But this writer also agrees with what the Republicans are thinking. The case is over, and now America should focus on other cases rather than being stuck on this one. The fact that Republicans promise that women and children would be safe and would benefit from this makes it seem more trustworthy.
