TikTok influencer Remi Badger reported the fact that she was teased for her weight at a ranch and would therefore not be allowed to ride the horses there.
According to the latest statistics from 2017-2020 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 41.9% of adult Americans are obese, including 1 in 5 Americans aged 2 to 19.
Of these adults, 40% of them have reported weight-based teasing, according to The Washington Post. TikTok influencer Remi Badger is a prime example of this.
On a TikTok video she made on her account @remibader, she said: “Shoutout to Deep Hollow Ranch in Montauk for making me leave because I weigh over 240.” “I’ve rode horses before and have never had this issue,” the caption reads. In the video, she asked Deep Hollow Ranch, the ranch that kicked her out, to advertise this on their signs in the future.
The reason Remi Badger publicized this incident wasn’t because of the ranch kicking her out, but because she was made fun of by an employee working at the Deep Hollow Ranch, according to The New York Times.
She said that she’d “never want to hurt the horses” and that being denied the chance to ride wasn’t the reason she publicized her experience. “I get it, some places have weight requirements.”
And later on, she said the ranch employee “very clear that they did not want me there because of my weight and that’s very disappointing.”
